The Nissan Frontier vs. the Toyota Tacoma - Which Truck is the Right Fit for Port Charlotte Drivers?

At Harbor Nissan, we know that drivers in the greater Fort Myers area have a lot of options to consider and choices to weigh when shopping for a versatile and capable pickup truck. But thanks to our impressive collection of new models from the renowned Nissan brand, we also know that we're your best local choice for selection and service.

If you're in the market for a light-duty and reliable pickup truck for family drives in Lehigh Acres or weekend adventures in North Port, allow us to introduce you to the latest Nissan Frontier models we have in stock. First introduced more than two decades ago in 1997, this stylish truck recently underwent an overhaul and makeover, and we want to help you get to know it better.

If you love our new Nissan Frontier, and the similarly sized Toyota Tacoma is also competing for your attention, we can help. Read on to learn about some of the similarities and differences between the two and to discover what sets our truck apart.

Power and Performance

Regardless of which trim or configuration you go for with the new Nissan Frontier, you can look forward to a standard 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque from the model's sole engine choice, a robust 3.8-liter V6 powertrain. The Toyota Tacoma, on the other hand, doesn't offer nearly as much power or output. There are two engine options for the competition, but neither is as powerful as the Nissan, with a top output of just 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.

Towing and Payload

Whether it's a small camper or a boat that you want to take with you on your family's weekend, the Nissan Frontier can more easily manage your heaviest loads. The Frontier has a top towing capacity of more then 6,700 pounds. But the Toyota Tacoma, on the other hand, offers a towing maximum of just 6,400 pounds.

Not only can the new Frontier tow more than the Toyota Tacoma, but it can also help you haul heavier loads with a higher payload capacity. The Frontier recently received higher walls on its pickup bed, making it more useful than ever and increasing capacity to a nice 1,610 pounds. But the Toyota Tacoma tops out with just 1,155 pounds.

Technology and Safety

With a larger touchscreen interface as standard equipment, the Nissan Frontier also does more to keep you connected and safe behind the wheel. Every Frontier gets standard zero-gravity front seats, as well as a standard 8-inch touchscreen display, compared to 7 inches in the Toyota, and every Nissan also gets sought-after features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard.

Not only can you look forward to great tech features for your Cape Coral commutes with the Nissan Frontier, but you can also expect more bang in terms of safety features as well. With the Nissan, many of the latest advanced safety features that our customers want are available as options as soon as the base model. These include blind-spot monitoring, which isn't available even as an option with the Toyota until the second trim up.
