Nissan creates first self-healing iPhone case

Nissan has been working on its self-healing clearcoat technology called Scratch Shield for more than seven years. While it's been applied to the company's cars for four years now, it's first non-automotive application is here: an iPhone case.

Called the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case, it appears aimed at the doubly-retentive types who not only don't like their phone getting scratched, but also don't even like their cases to show any wear. The healing finish is applied to an ABS-plastic case, so that the case protects the smartphone and the Scratch Shield protects the case. Nissan claims another benefit is that the glossy finish is easier to grip.

It's in beta-trial now, but if real-world testing brings accolades it could go on sale later this year - hopefully with some more subtle choices of branding.

Nissan March Nismo Concept

With press days for the Detroit Auto Show now behind us, our focus is shifting eastwards. Make that Far East, as the tuners have rolled in for the Tokyo Auto Salon, where Nissan performance tuning arm Nismo has taken on its third compact and given it an attitude adjustment.

Following the recent debuts of the Leaf Nismo and Juke Nismo comes this March Nismo, based on the small hatchback also known as the Micra or (in Taiwan) as the Verita. Nismo has given it a enhanced sportiness through lightweight wheels, updated grille and aero kit, new door mirrors and sportier seats and steering wheel inside.

It's all capped by a pearl white finish with red highlights, but while the Nismo parts catalog is sure to offer bolt-ons for the March, this particular configuration is strictly a concept. Check it out in the pair of high-resolution images along with the press release after the jump.

What Are You Willing To Sacrifice For A Low Price?

2012 Nissan Versa Sedan

The compact car market is white-hot. The new Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze and Hyundai Elantra have lifted the segment to new levels of refinement while at the same time improving fuel economy to 40 miles per gallon on the highway and beyond. Instead of turning their attention back to trucks and SUVs, manufacturers are going even smaller. Automakers have begun pouring vast resources into the smaller subcompact segment, and the result has been a wealth of all-new models. The Chevrolet Sonic, Hyundai Accent and Ford Fiesta are all-new or updated and vastly superior to prior subcompacts that still linger in our memories like an unpleasant aftertaste.

Nissan has put its subcompact under the knife, too, as the 2012 Versa features all-new sheetmetal, revised powertrains and a fresh interior. The previous Versa was known for being larger and less expensive than its competition, and its sales reflected that - it's been the most popular model in its segment. But we've been curious to learn if this latest redesign may help or hurt the Versa's standing, so we borrowed the keys to a top trim 2012 Nissan Versa SL Sedan for a week to find out.

Fox Marketing developing 400-hp Nissan Juke S

Filed under: , , ,  at Harbor Nissan

Nissan Juke by Fox Marketing

The Nissan Juke R concept may have sought to define the high-performance compact crossover, but what happens when you don't have a million-dollar budget, Nissan UK's engineering talent and a spare GT-R lying around? You build your own. And that's what Fox Marketing is doing. Well, almost...

The crew behind some of our favorite builds has apparently taken inspiration from the Juke R and decided to make something slightly less powerful, much more affordable and on the high side of attainable. It's called the Juke S and it's set to debut later this year.

According to Fox, they'll be retaining the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder and torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system used in the standard Juke, but they plan to push the wee engine passed the 400 horsepower mark with a host of breathing mods and a massive turbo.

Other kit will include 14-inch, six piston calipers, 20x9-inch wheels, a reworked suspension, Yonaka Ronin racing seats and an exterior fitted with a custom body kit and Foxy Orange paint from BASF. If all goes according to plan, we'll be seeing it before the summer, and hopefully it will inspire Nissan to develop its own hotted-up Juke for production.
